Look at Africa now, thanks to the dedicated team at the sanctuary and to everyone who helped her get there.
It was a tense day but the check-up went smoothly without any problems, however as expected and feared the results indicate that Nico is not in best shape as you would hope a chimp at his age to be.
Now we have to await the rest of the results and see how we can improve his state on the long term. All this sounds very gloomy, but don´t worry there is no imminent dangers, just that Nico due to his genetic disease (since birth) and his first years in captivity is bound to have some health problems for the rest of his life and will need even more attention from the vet and keeper staff.
We have received the results of Linda’s health check and unfortunately we have bad news.
Last 5th of March we went to Lanzarote to start with Linda’s rescue process.
New structures, new enrichments… Thanks to the generosity of many people we have been able to make new improvements at our facilities that for sure are going to have a very positive effect on the welfare of our rescued primates. Here’s the detail of what things we have done with your donations.
Today it’s exactly 13 years since we rescued the first chimpanzees from these poor conditions.
All the primates at MONA (human and nonhuman) would like to thank you for all your help and support and we wish you a very happy new year, full of health, happiness and love!

She is a beautiful female of about 35 years and she will be the next chimp to be rescued by MONA.
