Within the framework of the activities prepared for MONA’s 10th Anniversary, we will be welcoming Dr. and Dra. Fouts. During their visit they will speaking at a conference at Cosmocaixa on 4th May, where they will explain how sign language eradicates the division between chimpanzees and humans. Admission is free but reservations are required.

Washoe died in 2007, the first chimpanzee to learn (and even teach) hundreds of words in sign language. This conference will discuss these studies and the results obtained by researching the gestural dialects of wild chimpanzees.
The view that human language is the ultimate test of our “superiority” is giving way to the certainty that there is continuity between species.
